It is with sincere condolences and sympathy for you and T that I write to tell you that we have had to move forward and put Velvet to sleep. She went quickly and peacefully, in the company of her friend the cat here at the ranch. There is never a “good time” to euthanize a beloved animal, but the circumstances allowed for the most peaceful passing possible.
You gave Velvet the love and care she deserved after her short career at the track, and it is truly unfortunate that her prior injury was progressively getting worse, and with no possible treatment or rehab, would have committed her to a life of crippling pain. Rest assured that collectively, we have done the most humane thing for her.
Velvet you will always be in our heart. May your pain be gone and may you find yourself across the rainbow bridge grazing, running and being free with the horses gone before you.
